"Cé hé sin" (michael-m-mouse)

Must admit I had never heard of this. It was a V8 version of the 501 (no, not that either) and sold in its hundreds. Various restyles and renamings ensued without enormous success and it was succeeded by the “New Six” which was quite the success and sold in its hundreds of thousands.
All were manual. Different times.

I believe it was the last V8 BMW made until they put a V8 in the E32.

Yes, it was their first V8 and after it was replaced by a six it took BMW nearly thirty years to make another.

The 3200CS had a small V8, made in the early 60s. This car was the final chapter of the platform for the 501/2/3. I saw this one at the Speyer museum:

These are the kind of obscure facts I come to oppo for.

IIRC, it is also regarded as the first model with the Hofmeister kink. Being a clean early 60s hardtop design, it is also quite elegant.

I believe you are correct, not the most beautiful classic BMW ever but an important one.

I’m partial to the 507, but this is a pretty thing in its own right. It’s a very specific early 60s aesthetic.

A friends mom saw this, pretty excellent.

That’s a sight to see on the street. Maybe 10 years ago, I saw a middle aged Jackie Kennedy-looking woman driving a 507, hardtop on - won’t forget that.
When I was at BMW Welt a couple years ago, they had a 507 exhibition - here are some unusual ones. The finned car is a Vignale body, I think:

Note those pillars which you can actually see around. Also, the pillarless design continued.

Yes, this is the one.
A one off which BMW subsequently bought back.
